The Great and Powerful A to Z Challenge Theme Reveal!

DRUMROLL.

The time has come to reveal what the theme of the blog is going to be for this year's April A to Z challenge! For those of you who are (still) not familiar with this awesome whirlwind of blogness, you can find more information on it here, it's not too late to join the fun!

And now, without further ado: My theme for 2014 is...

TALES WITH COLORS.

I love colors. I love colorful things (in case the blog's title did not cue you in). This year, I am going to be posting about folktales, myths and legends that have something to do with a certain color of the day. The A to Z will be given by the colors, which is fun in itself: there are more colors (and especially names of colors) in the world than you could possibly imagine. Surely there will be at least one for every single letter in the alphabet. Right?... Right?

Happy A to Z, everyone! What's your favorite color? ;)

  1. Visiting from A/Z Theme Reveal; what a great theme with colors. My favorite color, as was my mom's, is blue. I knew of a lady where we used to live who did a lot with colors, what powerful colors were for people to wear for interviews, what colors to paint walls for in buildings, etc. She did a presentation one time that I listened to and it was absolutely fascinating!

    Good luck with the challenge!

  2. OMG...I read colors and I thought can this be a coincidence! Well so glad to connect with you from A to Z! I have a similar theme up my sleeve...but it's fictional. I am fascinated by the so many colors that our vocabulary does not know! All the best and looking forward to your posts!

  5. I love your idea. It's similar to my theme in that I'll also be posting about myth and folklore, but I will be focusing on creatures and people instead. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. :)

Best of luck to you in the challenge! :)

My favorite color varies, but presently is blue.
The Lenni Lenape have a legend about the Rainbow Crow, who is (*spoiler alert*) a black crow by the end of the story.

  11. Color filled theme for a colorful month. Lovely. Well let me tell you I am one confused person when it comes to my favorite color since it keeps changing with my mood which is on the go all the time.

I have revealed my theme too. Would appreciate a word or two on it.

  17. Colors are fun! Surely there are enough color names in different languages, especially, to work for the letters.

I have a hard time picking my favorite color - I usually go back and forth between blue, red, and purple. Note that they're all related, though :P.

  18. You know, it doesn't actually surprise me that there are 26 different names of colors. It WOULD surprise to learn that I knew more then 10 5 of them already. Needless to say, this is going to be educational for me.

Thanks so much for co-hosting this!

  19. Beautiful idea! I don't know if I have a favorite color. I like grass and sage green, sky blue, and sunset orange. :)

  20. I LOVE your theme! and the photo!

I'm keeping my theme vague and eclectic, "Storytelling and Life" -- since it is my first time, and I am in that retired "broad margin to my life" mind-set.

I did "borrow" the idea to begin compiling ideas to make it a bit easier to keep up once April 1 arrives.

  21. I always cop out and say my favourite colour is the rainbow and every colour in between. It will be interesting to see how you tie each colour to each tale

  28. The mash-up of colors and myths/folktales that you picked for your theme sounds like it's going to be a fun and informative read!

My anticipation for it lies in the possibility that readers will be able to learn something that they can teach to their children or nieces and nephews.

The mother is an artist and named all her children after colors: Indigo, Saffron, even Permanent Rose! very fun. Gail at Making Life An Art
